The old fishermen village is located 120 km from Tulcea and 35 km from Sulina, on the left shore of Danube’s oldest branch – Sf. Gheorghe, in the vicinity of the Black Sea.

The access to the village is possible only by boat: from Tulcea (4 hours), from Mahmudia (2 hours 30 minutes), or from Murighiol (2 hours).

Sf. Gheorghe is one of the villages with a good tourism infrastructure (boarding houses).

The village has also a modern mini-harbour, which offers optimal conditions for the boats reaching this location.

The lighthouse was built in 1968, to replace the old wooden lighthouse (1865).

Sacalin-Zatoane natural reserve is located South of the village, on the right side of the river. Many bird species nest on the island, of which we mention the great pelican and the mute swan. The part lying south of the confluence with the sea form an auxiliary delta, extremely picturesque, often visited by the tourists who enjoy the boat trips offered by the local inhabitants.

The beach is a roughly 15-20 minutes walk from the village, with fine sand, shells and thistles, both on the seashore and along the Danube.

The International Independent Film Festival (Anonimul) is an yearly event that takes place here.
